Embrasse Moi Sculpture Lamp

Platinum A' Design Award Winner 2025

An aerial view looking down through a residential stairwell reveals a striking sculptural lighting installation composed of multiple glowing circular rings that spiral through the vertical shaft of the staircase, the perspective from above showing the limestone or light-colored stone treads arranged in a rectangular spiral pattern as they descend level by level, their cool gray-beige surfaces providing neutral backdrop for the warm golden amber light emanating from the sculpture's tubular circular elements. Beginning at the spatial orientation, you are positioned above the stairwell looking down through approximately three to four visible levels of descent, the wrought iron or dark metal balustrades forming elegant rectangular frames around each level's opening, their surfaces appearing deep charcoal or matte black with decorative scrollwork details visible on the nearest railings. The sculptural lamp itself consists of five distinct circular rings of varying diameters, the largest perhaps four to five feet across and the smallest approximately two feet in diameter based on their relationship to the stair width, these rings appearing to be constructed from tubular metal frameworks approximately three to four inches in diameter that glow from within with consistent warm illumination suggesting LED light sources integrated inside the hollow tubes or perhaps wrapped around their exterior beneath translucent coverings. The rings intersect and overlap as they descend through space, creating complex spatial relationships where one passes in front of another from this viewpoint, their arrangement suggesting a gentle spiral or helical descent that echoes the staircase's own rotational geometry while maintaining independent compositional logic. The light quality feels warm as late afternoon sunlight filtered through honey, approximately 2700 to 3000 Kelvin in color temperature, this golden amber glow contrasting beautifully with the cool tones of the stone treads and creating soft halos of illumination that extend slightly beyond the physical boundaries of each glowing ring, the diffused radiance suggesting the surfaces scatter light gently rather than reflecting it sharply. The limestone or travertine treads appear smooth and honed rather than polished, their surfaces showing subtle natural variation in tone from pale cream to warm beige with occasional darker veining visible in the stone, the cool temperature of these materials providing tactile association with the smoothness of river rocks or cool marble against skin. The walls visible in the composition appear to be finished in cream or warm white plaster, their surfaces smooth and monochromatic, providing neutral backdrop that allows the interplay between glowing rings and architectural framework to command visual attention without competing elements. Moving systematically around the composition, the upper left quadrant shows one of the larger rings nearly complete in the frame, its perfect circular geometry reading clearly from this aerial perspective, while toward the right side, elliptical forms reveal rings viewed at angles as they tilt through three-dimensional space, their apparent ellipse shape resulting from the circles existing on different planes that our overhead viewpoint foreshortens. The atmosphere suggests evening or nighttime illumination with the sculpture providing the primary light source for the stairwell, the warm glow creating inviting ambiance that transforms utilitarian circulation space into contemplative environment, the quality of light suggesting warmth on skin, the enveloping quality of candlelight or firelight, though maintained with the consistency and safety of modern electrical illumination. The overall impression conveys elegant restraint, sculptural sophistication, and the transformation of everyday architectural elements into opportunities for aesthetic experience, the glowing rings appearing to float in the darkened void of the stairwell like golden halos or orbital paths frozen in their descent, inviting contemplation of geometry, light, and the human experience of moving through layered space from level to level in the daily rhythms of domestic life.

Halfway between art and design, Embrasse Moi is the majestic light sculpture whose name recalls the play on words between the English brass and the lamp's curved, enveloping shape. The suspension lamp has been handcrafted: a large sculpture in burnished brass that recalls the DNA strand, the weave of which unfolds like a fil rouge throughout the space, giving every project an artistic accent that makes it unique.
