Silver A' Design Award Winner 2023
This audio description presents a contemporary teahouse interior characterized by a dramatic sculptural wooden ceiling element. Scanning from above downward and from the center outward, the dominant feature is a large ovoid canopy finished in warm honey-gold wood veneer with visible grain patterns suggesting the color of amber or butterscotch candy. This sweeping form curves gently like an inverted shallow bowl or the underside of a wooden boat hull, suspended above the seating area and supported by a single vertical column finished in brushed bronze metal that descends from its center like a slender tree trunk. The ceiling surface would feel smooth and warm to the touch, with subtle undulations following the natural grain of the wood. Below this canopy, the seating area divides into distinct zones. In the immediate foreground, a curved banquette wraps in a gentle arc, its base finished in dark striated wood resembling espresso or dark chocolate, while the seat cushions appear in warm terracotta leather suggesting fired clay or autumn leaves. Circular tables in dark polished wood support small white ceramic vessels containing green leafy plants. Moving outward toward the perimeter, individual chairs with cognac-colored leather backs and dark wooden frames surround additional circular tables. The floor appears in pale neutral tones suggesting polished concrete or light stone, cool and smooth underfoot. Along the left and rear walls, tall windows stretch from floor to ceiling, dressed in natural woven blinds the color of pale straw or sand that filter daylight into a soft, diffused glow like morning light through paper screens. The filtered light creates a gentle, even illumination without harsh shadows, suggesting the comfortable warmth of indirect sunlight. Beyond a glass balustrade in the background, an elevated seating platform offers additional tables and chairs, creating a subtle sense of spatial depth and layered territories. The overall atmosphere suggests quiet warmth and contemplative calm, with implied stillness punctuated perhaps by soft conversation and the gentle sounds of ceramic cups meeting saucers.
The original intention of the project design is to build courtyards and buildings in the interior space, which can comfort people's hearts and guide people into the space without intention, just like the natural function, although tea drinking has traditional attributes, it is by no means an old thing. Following the tradition and combining the modern, the designer has folded the space.
