Golden A' Design Award Winner 2023
Looking upward into a grand circular interior space, this architectural photograph captures a dramatic ceiling composition organized around perfect radial symmetry, at the absolute center hangs a sculptural column with an hourglass shape, wider at top and bottom tapering to a narrow waist in the middle, executed in warm bronze metal with fine vertical striations visible across its surface suggesting brushed or textured metallic finish, four small warm-toned lights are embedded within this sculpture creating golden points against the cool daylight, directly behind and above the bronze sculpture a circular opening or oculus reveals pale blue sky softened by atmospheric haze, the oculus is divided by delicate bronze-colored metal frames creating a grid pattern of curved lines, surrounding this central composition the walls radiate outward in an extraordinary pattern of pleated or ribbed surfaces, imagine hundreds of individual triangular folds arranged in concentric circles like the pleats of an enormous paper fan or the layered petals of a chrysanthemum flower opening, these surfaces appear soft to the eye despite being architectural in scale, their color a warm creamy white approaching champagne where light touches directly and cooling to gentle shadow in the recessed valleys between folds, the light quality throughout suggests diffused natural daylight entering primarily from above creating soft gradations rather than harsh contrasts, the overall impression is one of extraordinary refinement and contemplative calm, the space feels simultaneously grand in scale yet intimate in its attention to surface detail, the warm bronze centerpiece provides grounding against the expansive pale surroundings, temperature associations range from cool where the white surfaces recede in shadow to warm where bronze and golden light congregate at center.
The designer strives to infuse space with life by balancing the functional layout, aesthetics and sensory delight. To do this, he takes simple shapes and bright elements from all nature. The dome creates a sense of infinite fantasy, where everything is unoccupied and people may observe anything in silence in the 12m high, 9m open atrium. This will bring them into an artistic realm of freedom. The midair corridor is unique in its natural beauty while the ceiling vein is designed as a landscape cycle. With these efforts, the symbiosis between nature, art, architecture and space is achieved.
