Golden A' Design Award Winner 2023
This audio description presents a contemporary designer sofa photographed in a studio setting against a graduated backdrop, the background transitions from pale silvery blue-gray at the top through neutral tones to deep charcoal gray at the bottom where the sofa rests on a dark reflective surface, scanning from background to foreground the eye moves through this atmospheric gradient before encountering the central object which dominates the middle and lower portions of the composition, the sofa itself appears constructed from thick translucent material resembling amber-colored glass or resin with the warm golden-orange tone of honey held against sunlight, the form is essentially a rectangular block approximately three times wider than it is tall with generously rounded corners creating a smooth continuous exterior shell, the walls of this transparent vessel appear substantial perhaps several inches thick and light passes through them creating internal luminous effects, the color deepens toward burnt orange in the lower portions where the material is thickest and lightens to pale honey-gold along the upper rim where light enters most directly, within this amber shell positioned in the seating cavity are three cushions rendered in bright chartreuse yellow suggesting soft textile or leather, two cushions at either end rise to triangular peaks leaning against the armrests while a central cushion lies horizontally between them, the cushions create a sense of comfortable domesticity within the jewel-like enclosure, the exterior surface exhibits high-gloss finish smooth and cool to imagine like polished stone or glass with visible specular highlights as small bright white reflections along the left side, the sofa casts subtle reflections onto the dark ground plane beneath it, horizontal striations visible within the amber walls suggest either intentional design elements or natural material characteristics catching light, the overall impression combines warmth from the amber coloration with the cool smoothness of the glossy surface creating a piece that seems to glow from within.
Spark Sofa has smooth, fluid lines and lacks hash edges, a direct result of the procedure that produced this monobloc sofa. Transparent yet sturdy, the polycarbonate material permits resistance to shock and weathering, this particular feature means the seat can comfortably be used for both indoor and outdoor activities. Also under the dim light, it shows the beauty of a spark. The challenge was to create a stylish and comfortable sofa suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
