Silver A' Design Award Winner 2023
These drop earrings by Azam Nabatian present a pair of ornate jewelry pieces photographed from directly above against a smooth cream-colored background, with natural leaves arranged decoratively in the upper left corner. Beginning with the overall format, this is a square composition showing two matching earrings positioned in a gentle diagonal arrangement from upper right to lower center, each measuring approximately the same size and featuring identical designs rendered in mirror-image orientation. The earrings suspend from curved golden hooks shaped like elongated horseshoes with hinged closures suitable for pierced ears. Below each hook hangs the main decorative element, a shield-shaped pendant with softly rounded corners forming a broad triangular silhouette pointed downward. The outer edge of each shield features a continuous border of small clear diamonds, perhaps forty to fifty stones per earring, creating a sparkling frame that catches light with cool brilliance. Within this diamond border, an openwork design reveals floral imagery, specifically rose-like flowers with leaves and stems. The flowers display warm reddish-orange petals, perhaps five or six rounded lobes per bloom, surrounding small golden centers that glow like tiny suns. The leaves appear in rich green tones ranging from deep emerald to teal, their surfaces showing subtle texture and luminous depth suggesting glass-like enamel material that would feel smooth and cool to touch. Curving stems in matching green connect the botanical elements, creating flowing movement within the geometric frame. Suspended below each shield pendant hangs an oval-cut gemstone in rosy pink, perhaps tourmaline or garnet, held in a simple golden bezel setting, adding graceful length and additional sparkle. In the upper left, natural plant leaves in varied colors from deep burgundy through yellow-green to forest green create organic context, their slightly irregular edges and visible veining contrasting with the refined precision of the crafted jewelry.
Designer selected the flowers as part of nature and they considered the diamonds around the flowers as dew in nature surrounding the flowers. The brilliance of the dew on the flower adds to the beauty of the flower as a gem that has taken the color of the flowers and it falls. By using enamel colors and a combination of it with jewellery makes this recognizable piece. Metal casting, fire enamel and hand made stone setting is used in the creation of this work.
