Sunglider Public Transport System

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2024

This architectural visualization presents an elevated public transit system at twilight, formatted as a square image depicting urban infrastructure with surrounding context. Scanning from background to foreground, the composition begins with a clear cerulean sky deepening toward ultramarine at the upper edge, suggesting the cool temperature of early evening. The distant background contains a cluster of modern buildings in cool blue-gray glass rising along the right side, their vertical forms providing urban scale reference. Below these and spanning the middle distance, historic buildings in warm brick tones—the color of aged terracotta or sun-warmed clay—provide contextual grounding. The dominant structural element sweeps diagonally across the composition from lower left to upper right: an elevated guideway supported by branching columns in warm honey-colored timber, the color reminiscent of fresh pine or light oak. These supports divide into Y-shaped configurations suggesting tree branches or spreading roots, each perhaps four to five times human height. Above the guideway, a geometric canopy of interlocking triangles creates a lattice pattern, its triangular openings revealing glimpses of sky while translucent panels glow with soft cool illumination from above. A transit vehicle traverses the guideway in the middle ground, its form slightly blurred to suggest movement, painted in white with burgundy accent stripes. At ground level, a polished plaza surface reflects the structural elements above, rendered in deep charcoal and umber tones like wet slate. Sinuous lines of warm amber light—like flowing honey or molten copper—trace paths across this surface, creating serpentine patterns that suggest pedestrian and vehicle movement captured over time. Several human figures, rendered small to establish scale, walk across this plaza, their forms slightly ghosted by motion. Mature deciduous trees punctuate the space at regular intervals, their fresh spring-green foliage providing soft organic contrast to the geometric architecture. The overall atmosphere conveys cool evening air with pockets of warmth where artificial lighting activates the timber structure.

Sunglider is an autonomous, photovoltaic-powered public transportation system for urban areas. It consists of autonomous suspended passenger and freight vehicles and small autonomous buses on the ground. The track is made of glulam and supports a PV roof that generates around 120 percent of the energy required for the entire system. The metro is controlled by artificial intelligence, resulting in a maintenance-free cycle of 3 minutes. All vehicles are 3D printed in microfactories. Investment and operating costs are drastically reduced, making the ride free.
