Blended Into The Forest Residential House

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2023

This rectangular landscape-format architectural photograph presents a contemporary residential structure nestled within a mature deciduous forest, captured during evening twilight. Scanning from background to foreground, the upper portion of the image reveals a canopy of green leafy trees with varied textures, their foliage ranging from deep forest green to lighter sage tones, silhouetted against a sky that transitions from coral pink near the horizon through soft peach to pale lavender-grey in the upper reaches, suggesting the warmth of sunset fading into cool evening. Two prominent tree trunks dominate the middle ground, positioned left of center and right of center, their bark completely wrapped in climbing ivy creating columns of dense green leaves that feel lush and textured like velvet curtains. Between and behind these living columns stands the house itself, a two-story structure approximately spanning the central two-thirds of the image width. The upper level features charcoal grey corrugated metal siding, cool in temperature like slate or storm clouds, with vertical ribbing creating subtle linear texture. Large rectangular windows punctuate this dark volume, their glass surfaces reflecting the surrounding greenery in muted tones. The lower level wraps in horizontal wooden planks the warm reddish-brown color of cinnamon or polished mahogany, smooth and inviting to the touch. At the right side of the lower level, a recessed entry area glows with warm golden light the color of honey, emanating from within and creating an welcoming beacon. The foreground divides into three zones: at left, an expanse of perfectly maintained grass in vivid emerald green stretches like soft carpet toward the house. A cluster of round hydrangea blooms in creamy white, soft as gathered clouds, nestles against the base of one ivy-covered trunk. From the lower right corner, a pathway of large square grey stone pavers, cool and smooth as river stones, extends diagonally toward the illuminated entry. A small dark bollard light stands along this path. In the lower left corner, feathery pine needles in blue-green tones provide foreground framing.

House Blended Into The Forest is a building that was created in the surroundings of an old pine forest with respect for nature. The basic assumption when designing this house was to integrate it into the existing trees and unite it with the forest. This idea was realized thanks to the use of a material that seems to be alien to the forest, i.e. sheet metal. The implementation showed that the house almost grows out of nature. The interior of the house is white and green dominates it thanks to large windows.
