Skate Outdoor Chair

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2022

Scanning from background to foreground, this photograph presents an outdoor chair positioned on warm beige stone paving within a landscaped setting. The background contains soft-focus vegetation in muted olive and sage green tones, creating a gentle botanical backdrop that feels diffused and calm like a garden viewed through morning haze. Moving forward, the middle ground reveals an angular white raised planter bed, perhaps forty centimeters tall, containing white river stones or gravel from which emerge several spiky desert plants with long pointed leaves radiating outward like frozen green fireworks, their coloring ranging from deep forest green at the base to bright chartreuse at the tips where sunlight catches them. The planter creates a strong horizontal white band across the composition, its clean geometric edges contrasting with the organic spray of the plantings. The foreground and dominant subject is the Skate Alu Outdoor Chair by Jati Kebon, occupying the lower right portion of the image. The chair consists of two main elements: a continuous woven surface forming both seat and backrest, and a supporting aluminum frame. The woven portion is rendered in cool gray rope, like the color of morning fog or weathered driftwood, with the texture appearing soft yet substantial, creating an interlaced pattern of roughly one-centimeter-wide flat cords that cross and overlap in a rhythmic basket-like arrangement. The backrest rises in an oval or paddle shape, perhaps sixty centimeters tall, while the seat curves gently forward and downward. Supporting this woven form are four tubular aluminum legs finished in warm cream or pale ivory, tapering slightly as they descend to meet the stone floor at gentle angles that suggest stability and lightness simultaneously. Strong overhead sunlight creates a distinctive shadow beneath the chair that falls on the warm-toned paving stones. This shadow reveals a perforated pattern in the seat pan structure, appearing as regular dots of light within the darker shadow shape, creating a secondary visual element of considerable graphic interest. The overall atmosphere suggests warmth, Mediterranean leisure, and the quiet pleasure of well-designed objects within thoughtfully composed outdoor spaces.

With a laid-back personality, this furniture collection is suitable for outdoor use. The curved seat of the lounge chair and bench draws inspiration from a skateboard. Its round and curled-up sides give it grace and comfort, leaving the lounger unaware of its seating. An aluminium powder-coated frame and a polyolefin rope finish make the furniture durable, outdoor-proof and weather-resistant. The materials are lightweight, easily separated, and can be recycled after use.
