Object Splash Proof Partition

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2022

This description presents a furniture design photograph featuring a protective dining partition in use. The image is square in format, approximately equal in height and width, with a warm gray background providing neutral context. Dominating the upper two-thirds of the composition rises a large circular panel, roughly three-quarters the image height, made of transparent material that shifts in color like a gentle gradient. Beginning at the lower left edge, the panel glows with a warm rosy pink, the temperature of flushed cheeks or cherry blossoms, gradually cooling and lightening through the center to pure clarity, then warming again toward soft butter yellow at the upper right, like early morning light filtering through. A slender golden rod angles upward from lower left, supporting this luminous disc. Seated behind this protective screen, positioned slightly right of center in the middle ground, a young child of perhaps three or four years rests at a dark wooden table surface. She wears a soft blue shirt, the color of faded denim or spring sky, and props her chin thoughtfully on her left palm while her right hand holds a small fork. Her dark hair frames her face with soft bangs, and her expression suggests gentle contemplation or mild reluctance. Before her sits a shallow bowl in sage green, cool and smooth-looking, filled with bright green broccoli florets, their texture suggesting tender-crisp freshness. To the right foreground stand two turned wooden vessels, their surfaces smooth as polished river stones, one taller and slender in rich walnut brown bearing a purple thistle flower, the other shorter and rounder in lighter honey wood. A small rectangular brass weight anchors the partition base, its surface cool and substantial.

Many of Covid-19's temporary splash-proof partitions are cheaply designed. So Akira Nakagomi designed a splash-proof partition to add color to life, rather than a cheap temporary one. It is a simple configuration of a circular acrylic supported by a bent brass rod, and the rod is fixed with a brass cylinder. Another set can also be connected and fixed around the brass weight. The Object is a product like an art piece that emphasizes both aesthetics and function. The Object is also sustainable in that it can be displayed as an art piece rather than being unnecessary after the Covid-19.
