Silver A' Design Award Winner 2022
A spherical wooden cat bed dominates the center-left portion of a square format image, resting on a gray ribbed carpet and photographed against a wall of vertical fluted panels in warm taupe. The bed, approximately the size of a small beach ball, is constructed from dozens of fitted wooden segments in various triangular and diamond shapes, each displaying unique grain patterns ranging from straight lines to swirling whorls in colors spanning pale honey through rich amber to deep chocolate brown, creating a surface that feels like touching many different pieces of smooth, warm wood fitted together like a three-dimensional puzzle. A circular opening roughly one-quarter the sphere's diameter faces the viewer at a slight leftward angle, its edge smooth and rounded, revealing darkness within that suggests a cushioned interior space. Warm light falls from the upper left, creating gentle highlights along the raised edges of wood segments and casting soft shadows that emphasize the faceted, almost crystalline quality of the assembled surface. Scattered across the gray carpet, which has a corduroy-like ribbed texture running horizontally, are numerous small spheres roughly the size of golf balls in matte cerulean blue and darker charcoal gray, some clustered near the bed's base, others dispersed toward the right side where a shallow terracotta-colored dish holds additional spheres. The background wall features approximately fifteen vertical cylindrical columns in warm beige, like rolled cardboard tubes standing side by side, creating rhythmic shadows in their intervals that suggest a gallery or showroom setting. The overall atmosphere feels warm, quiet, and refined, like entering a well-curated design boutique where natural light filters through large windows, carrying the subtle woody scent of fresh veneer and the peaceful stillness of a space designed for contemplation and appreciation of crafted objects.
Saturn is a pet house with a modern style. Making full use of surplus materials of modern wood processing, this product reduces material waste and adheres to the maxim of sustainability. Moreover, it integrates elegance and utilization for a stunning view of modern home space. The design team is inspired by the surplus materials during the production of modern furniture, which is premium in quality but cannot be reused for its sizes. Thus, they refer to the football and assemble the wood into a regular round shape.
