Haimen Agricultural Exhibition Hall

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2022

A contemporary exhibition building appears in an evening landscape photograph, positioned in the upper center of a horizontal composition, rising above a foreground of calm water that occupies the lower half of the frame. The building presents as a luminous white structure with an intricate perforated surface pattern creating a delicate lace-like texture across its facades, suggesting the quality of finely woven fabric or cut paper rather than solid construction. The structure features a distinctive stepped profile, ascending from left to right like a modernized ziggurat, with dramatic angular roofline elements creating a sawtooth silhouette of triangular peaks against the sky, numbering approximately five to six pointed forms. The perforated cladding allows glimpses of the building's underlying structure and creates visual depth through layered transparency. The sky occupies the upper third of the image, displaying soft gradients from pale pink near the horizon through delicate lavender to muted blue-gray above, suggesting the fleeting moments between sunset and nightfall when colors appear most tender. Thin horizontal clouds stretch across this atmospheric field, their undersides touched with warm rose tones. The water surface below mirrors these sky colors in horizontal bands, with gentle ripples creating soft texture like brushed silk, the reflection interrupted by scattered aquatic vegetation and a blurred dark element in the lower left suggesting foreground reeds or grasses. To the left of the main building, traditional structures appear in smaller scale, featuring characteristic white walls and dark angular rooftops suggesting vernacular architectural traditions, their intimate proportions contrasting with the exhibition hall's commanding presence. Dense vegetation including mature trees surrounds these traditional buildings and extends behind them, their branches bare or sparsely leafed suggesting late autumn or early spring season. A single warm amber light glows from within one window of the exhibition hall, creating an intimate point of warmth within the cool overall tonality.

Haimen Agricultural Exhibition Hall is located in China's first ecological farm. The architectural motif is derived from the image of barn in agricultural civilization. The appearance of field barn is rooted in the prototype of square barn and round granary. It not only integrated the legalist thought of up her barns solid and know etiquette, and clothing foot but wed bred, but also coincided with the current goal of building a well-off society in China.
