Golden A' Design Award Winner 2021
Scanning this architectural visualization from background to foreground, listeners will construct a mental image of a contemporary mixed-use building complex dominated by a dramatic curved white façade against an expansive sky. The distant background presents a soft urban skyline rendered in muted grays and warm amber tones suggesting other high-rise buildings receding into atmospheric haze under a sky that transitions from pale creamy white near the horizon to gentle cerulean blue overhead, with scattered clouds catching warm light. In the middle ground at left, a cylindrical tower with gold-bronze reflective surfaces rises vertically, while scattered mid-rise buildings and trees with soft pink blossoms establish urban context. The primary architectural subject commands the composition center and right, consisting of two interconnected elements working in dramatic contrast. At left, a sweeping curved surface wraps around a low podium volume, this surface appearing like flowing fabric or wind-shaped dunes, entirely covered in a rhythmic pattern of diamond-shaped perforations that feel like woven textile or expanded metal mesh, the openings creating darker shadows against cream-white structural members. This curved shell extends perhaps eight stories in height, swooping upward at right where it meets the second element, a tall glass tower rising approximately twenty stories, its surface reflecting the cool blue sky in regular horizontal bands of glazing separated by white floor plates. The junction between curved organic form and rectilinear tower creates dynamic visual tension. A dramatic cascading waterfall emerges from the podium level at left, white foaming water tumbling over dark stone or concrete surfaces into reflecting pools, suggesting the refreshing sound of rushing water. At street level, the smooth gray pavement accommodates several small vehicles and tiny human figures perhaps one-fiftieth the building height, establishing the monumental scale. Landscaped areas with green vegetation and small trees soften the forecourt. The overall atmosphere feels aspirational and luminous, warm afternoon light creating gentle shadows.
The Pingjiang Times Project is an urban complex integrating a high-end hotel, retail shopping mall, serviced apartments, and office space. Inspired by the movement and flow of water, the concentric circular geometry continues through the landscape platforms that extend throughout the site. The waving façade design creates an organic feel and ties project to the significant role that water plays in this region of China. The project seamlessly interfaces with the surrounding context along the river, realizing the dream of "developing across rivers" to "supporting the development of rivers".
