A lifestyle photograph presents a children's activity station positioned centrally within a bright, airy room, captured in landscape format with natural daylight illuminating the scene from a large window behind. The wooden play furniture stands approximately waist-height to the two toddlers engaging with it, constructed from pale honey-colored birch wood with distinctive sage-green panels featuring a grid of circular holes. Beginning at the back of the scene, sheer white curtains diffuse warm afternoon light, creating a soft glow against cream-colored walls decorated with small framed photographs. A gray paper backdrop, like those used in photography studios, hangs behind the furniture piece, suspended on a black metal stand. The play station itself features a stepped structure with a flat work surface on top, where wooden pegs and small colorful balls rest. A wooden mallet hangs from a cord at the right side. On the left, a young child with wispy blonde hair wears a dark blue dress with thin vertical stripes over bright cherry-red leggings and yellow shoes, standing in profile while examining a small object in their hands with quiet concentration. On the right, another child with abundant dark curly hair faces away, wearing a cream and caramel striped long-sleeve shirt with soft blue pants, barefoot, reaching toward the pegboard surface. The floor beneath them transitions from warm caramel parquet in a zigzag pattern to a pale ice-blue mat that defines the play area. Scattered around the periphery, a wooden storage box, soft furnishings in forest green, and colorful toys create a welcoming domestic atmosphere suggesting warmth, creativity, and the gentle sounds of focused childhood activity.
The Werkelkueche is a gender-open activity workstation that enables children to immerse themselves in free play worlds. It combines the formal and aesthetic features of children's kitchens and workbenches. Therefore the Werkelkueche offer diverse possibilities to play. The curved plywood worktop can be used as a sink, workshop or ski slope. The side compartments can provide storage and hiding space or bake crispy rolls. With the help of the colorful and interchangeable tools, children can realize their ideas and imitate the world of adults in a playful way.
