A monochromatic photograph presents layered sedimentary rock formations filling the entire square frame, rendered in rich grayscale tones ranging from bright silvery white to deep charcoal approaching black. Scanning from the upper portion downward, horizontal striations of stone create wave-like patterns resembling frozen ripples, with fine linear bands running roughly parallel across the surface like the pages of an enormous ancient book viewed edge-on. These striations carry a cool gray tonality in shadowed areas transitioning to warm cream-white where strong directional light from the upper right catches granular mineral surfaces. The texture suggests rough gritite under fingertips, weathered and granular like fine sandpaper or dried clay, with accumulated mineral particles creating almost sparkling luminosity in highlighted passages. Moving toward the center and lower portions, dramatic vertical ridgelines emerge where erosion has carved deep channels through the layered stone, creating sharp-edged crests that cast profound shadows into adjacent crevasses. These shadows possess velvety depth, cool and recessive, like the interior of a cave or the darkness beneath heavy fabric. The erosional ridges descend diagonally from upper left toward lower right, their surfaces deeply furrowed with vertical striations suggesting watercourses or wind channels carved over immense timespans. The overall atmosphere conveys profound stillness and antiquity, as if observing the slow breathing of the earth itself. Light warms the raised surfaces while cool shadow fills the recessed areas, creating temperature contrast that emphasizes three-dimensional relief throughout the composition.
This series is focused on the abstract rock formations created over billions of years or in this case eons. The aim was to show the beauty in nature. The photographs is a series capturing abstract compositions created by nature. It should transport the viewer away from negative energy and transport them to a calm state of mind.
