Lattice Chair Weaving Armchair

Platinum A' Design Award Winner 2021

A wooden armchair constructed from flowing bent strips of natural wood occupies the center-right portion of this square-format photograph, positioned at an angle that reveals its innovative woven construction. Scanning from background to foreground, the rear plane consists of large concrete panels in cool dove gray with subtle textural variation and visible panel seams creating minimal geometric divisions. The floor surface appears as polished concrete in slightly warmer gray tones with natural mottling. The chair itself rises approximately two-thirds the height of the image, crafted from wood in warm tones ranging from pale cream like fresh butter to deeper golden amber like wildflower honey. The frame consists of smooth cylindrical members forming four sturdy legs, curved armrests that sweep upward in graceful arcs, and structural supports connecting these elements. The backrest rises from the rear legs in a gentle backward curve. The most distinctive feature involves multiple flexible wooden strips, perhaps fifteen to twenty individual slats, that flow continuously from the upper backrest, curve down and forward through the seat area, and emerge beneath to connect to the front structural elements. These strips weave over and under each other in a basket-like pattern, creating an interlaced surface that forms both the backrest and seat. The weaving creates a rhythmic undulating texture that catches light differently across its surface, warmer and brighter on the crests of curves, cooler and shadowed in the valleys where strips cross beneath others. Strong natural light entering from the upper left creates crisp illumination across the wood surfaces, emphasizing the rounded cross-sections and smooth sanded finish. This directional light casts a dramatic elongated shadow onto the wall behind, reproducing the lattice pattern as a dark graphic silhouette approximately twice the chair's width. In the foreground bottom left, an open hardcover book lies flat on the concrete floor, displaying black and white photographic images on its pages. Resting atop the open book, a pair of reading glasses with round tortoiseshell frames in warm brown and amber tones adds human presence. The overall atmosphere suggests quiet contemplation, intellectual leisure, and appreciation for handcrafted objects in a serene domestic or gallery setting.

The word “lattice” means lines intertwined with, and intersecting, each other horizontally and vertically.Especially use Taiwan's high-quality bamboo with excellent toughness, combines bamboo craft into woodcraft via weaving bamboos and bent woods together. By preserving and integrating the flexibility of bamboos and the firmness of wood, so weight of the chair is only 4 kg, but it can withstand more than 120 kg, the lighter weight allows the elderly and children to move around more easily.
Single-sided armrest design allows users to sit in a variety of ways, more free and flexible.
