Golden A' Design Award Winner 2021
This audio description presents a high-end restaurant interior photographed from a standing position at the dining floor level, looking toward the back of house where an open kitchen is visible. Beginning with the most commanding element overhead, the entire ceiling comprises large rectangular copper-toned panels arranged in a tessellated pattern, each panel featuring a perforated mesh center surrounded by a softly glowing border of warm golden light. The color suggests burnished pennies or autumn maple leaves, radiating warmth like afternoon sunlight through amber glass. Moving downward, the foreground contains two square dining tables dressed in crisp white tablecloths that feel starched and smooth, cool against the surrounding warmth. Black leather chairs with curved backs and brass nail-head trim surround each table, their surfaces suggesting the soft yield of well-worn saddle leather. Table settings include white plates, clear glassware, and neatly folded napkins. At the left wall, mounted at eye level, a decorative skull with long curved horns creates a sculptural focal point, its surface appearing smooth and pale like weathered bone. Suspended nearby, illuminated decorative elements curve gracefully. The middle ground reveals a curved structure wrapped in perforated copper-toned material with the establishment name visible, behind which stainless steel kitchen equipment gleams with cool efficiency. Copper pots and pans hang from overhead racks, their surfaces suggesting the substantial weight and warmth of well-used cookware. Along the base of the service counter, rough crystalline formations emerge dramatically from mirrored surfaces, their texture suggesting geodes cracked open to reveal sparkling interiors, feeling sharp and geological against the polished surroundings. The right wall features a wine display where bottles rest horizontally in individual holders against a deep burgundy background, the glass cool and smooth. The overall atmosphere feels like being embraced by warm candlelight, intimate and welcoming despite the sophisticated materials.
This project is located in Shanghai. The restaurant has a dry-aging room made from Himalayan rock salt, an open food storage area, and a professional wine cellar for an intuitive view and selection of ingredients. Also, an open kitchen allows guests to enjoy the display of different cooking techniques, creating a healthy atmosphere of mutual trust, and creating a multi-functional dining space where people's feelings and the space style are fully expressed.
