Golden A' Design Award Winner 2021
This square-format digital artwork presents an aerial view of an expansive landscape rendered in predominantly cool blue-green tones accented with warm earth colors. Beginning with overall orientation, the composition depicts what appears to be terrain viewed from directly above, creating a flattened yet richly detailed topographical map of organic forms. The dominant central feature is an elongated oval shape positioned slightly right of center, featuring concentric rings that spiral inward from the outer edge toward a luminous center, colored in bands of teal, golden ochre, and aqua blue, reminiscent of a cross-section through an agate stone or the rings of a tree trunk. Moving outward from this central formation, the surrounding landscape flows in sinuous curves and ribbons of varying green and blue tones, from deep forest green like summer moss to brilliant turquoise like tropical shallow waters. Linear patterns suggesting terraced fields or natural ridgelines create textural interest, appearing as fine parallel lines of olive green and burnt orange, their texture suggesting the feel of corduroy fabric or the ridges of a seashell. Scattered throughout the composition are small white shapes, appearing as delicate forms that could be birds in flight viewed from above or small architectural structures, their crisp whiteness contrasting coolly against the warm and cool earth tones surrounding them. The overall atmosphere feels peaceful and contemplative, like viewing the earth from a great height on a clear day, with soft diffused light suggesting midday illumination without harsh shadows. The color temperature ranges from cool aquatic blues suggesting refreshing water to warm amber and ochre passages suggesting sunlit earth and cultivation.
For each of these pieces in this video montage, designer focused on the ambience of the scenes. He wished to create a sense of "flowing", like "running water" in the river, by looping the movement of the objects in a fluent way and built an atmosphere which the audience could immerse their emotions in. For most of the pieces, designer made the shot very wide. Most of the objects were very small and far. Designer wished the audience could have the feeling that they were standing right inside the scene when they were watching it.
