Golden A' Design Award Winner 2021
This interior space presents a symmetrical architectural composition viewed through a large barrel-vaulted archway, approximately three meters in width. The overall color impression is warm and soft, like natural linen or unglazed ceramic, with surfaces finished in what feels like smooth plaster throughout walls, ceilings, and archways. Beginning at the left edge, an arched opening frames a bright window alcove containing tall desert plants, a slender tree-like form reaching upward alongside rounded cacti, planted in sand-colored ground material. Moving toward center, four curved wooden partition walls in warm brown tones similar to toasted walnut stand in the foreground, their forms sweeping upward in graceful arcs that mirror the architectural curves above. These create intimate passages between them while allowing views through to the space beyond. The central vista reveals a stepped platform arrangement in pale wood tones, rising in three tiers like an amphitheater, with various objects placed upon the surfaces including small sculptures and vessels. Beyond this, additional arched openings of varying sizes create a layered depth, their curves visible through the central passage. The rightmost portion shows darker tones suggesting a seating area with black chairs visible through an opening. The lighting feels soft and diffused, like an overcast day, with gentle brightness entering from the left window and filtering through various apertures. The ceiling curves overhead in a barrel vault formation, creating a sensation of protective enclosure. The atmosphere suggests quietude and contemplation, the smooth continuous surfaces creating acoustic softness. The spatial arrangement invites forward movement through the curved partitions toward the illuminated center, while the repeated arch forms create rhythm and visual music throughout the environment.
EVD office is conceived based on two design threads. The designers created a U-shaped area that combines with one long side and the 5 large windows, allowing natural light to filter in and diffuse freely. The spatial form is shaped based on classical languages, designers utilized classical architectural elements with modern approaches, to add a sense of eternity to the space. Besides, sphere, the most beautiful solid figure is brought in, which enhances the spatial aesthetic. The design starts from solving with spatial limitations caused by pipes for fire protection and air conditioners.
