Poise Adjustable Table Lamp

Platinum A' Design Award Winner 2020

This audio description presents a contemporary adjustable table lamp photographed against a gray wall, the composition oriented in portrait format. Scanning from top to bottom, the eye first encounters a large circular ring occupying the upper portion of the frame, this ring appearing as a continuous band of soft, warm white light similar to early morning sunshine or candlelight filtered through frosted glass. The ring measures approximately two-thirds of the image width and creates a gentle halo effect, its luminosity diffusing outward against the cool blue-gray wall behind, which has the smooth, matte texture of painted plaster. The temperature of the background feels cool, like stone in shade, while the light emanating from the ring provides warmth that seems to radiate toward the viewer. Bisecting this glowing circle from upper left to lower right runs a slender support arm with the appearance of dark brushed metal, perhaps gunmetal or black aluminum, with a texture that would feel smooth and cool to the touch, similar to a precision instrument or fine cutlery. This diagonal element creates a sense of dynamic movement within the otherwise serene circular form. Following this arm downward, it extends beyond the ring's lower edge and angles toward a compact horizontal base positioned in the lower center of the composition. This base, sharing the dark metallic character of the support arm, rests upon what appears to be a white horizontal ledge or architectural molding, its surface smooth and painted, running across the full width of the image like a window sill. The junction where diagonal arm meets horizontal base reveals a pivot point suggesting the lamp's adjustable nature. A dark power cord emerges from the base, curving gently rightward and descending below the frame edge. The overall atmosphere conveys quiet sophistication and meditative calm, the gentle glow creating an intimate pool of illumination within the cooler surrounding environment, suggesting a space of focused thought or restful contemplation.

The acrobatic appearance of Poise, a table lamp designed by Robert Dabi of unform.studio shifts between static & dynamic and a big or small posture. Depending on the proportion between its' illuminated ring and the arm holding it, an intersecting or tangent line to the circle occurs. When placed on a higher shelf, the ring could overhang the shelf; or by tilting the ring, it could touch a surrounding wall. The intention of this adjustability is to get the owner creatively involved and play with the light source in proportion to other objects surrounding it.
