Golden A' Design Award Winner 2020

Scanning from ceiling to floor, this installation photograph captures a forest of massive curved wooden panels rising within an exhibition space, their warm golden surfaces dominating the visual field against a dark exposed ceiling structure above. Beginning at the top, a black industrial ceiling grid with exposed mechanical systems and recessed spotlights establishes the utilitarian context of an exhibition hall, with approximately eight small circular lights visible casting warm illumination downward. Moving to the primary visual elements, five major timber panels occupy the composition, their surfaces displaying consistent vertical grain patterns in tones ranging from pale cream like sun-bleached driftwood to deeper honey reminiscent of amber or golden syrup. The leftmost panel appears darkest, positioned slightly forward, its surface suggesting the warmth of polished oak furniture. Adjacent panels vary in height and curvature, with the tallest reaching perhaps six meters, their tops cut at dramatic angles suggesting mountain peaks or breaking waves frozen in wood. The texture throughout reads as smooth yet characteristically striated, like running fingertips along fine corduroy or bamboo matting. At center-left, a motion-blurred human figure walks through a narrow passage between panels, their indistinct form suggesting movement and providing crucial scale reference, the figure appearing roughly one-fifth the height of the surrounding structures. To the right, a stepped platform constructed of matching timber creates an amphitheater-like seating or display area, with five or six risers ascending toward a curved backdrop. The floor continues the wood palette in lighter tones, smooth and reflective. The overall atmosphere suggests cathedral-like reverence, the warm enclosure of the timber creating sensations of shelter and natural embrace despite the monumental scale.

The shape of wood veneer shavings radians is the main inspiration for the design. The curved shape wall of logs scattered and stacked in the periphery covers the whole exhibition hall, creating a mysterious and quiet atmosphere through the physical structure. With the large log around, let a person feel like in the forest. At the entrance, vaguely the map distribution of the forest farm resources owned by Anxin around the world. The map made of log waste vividly shows the history. The specially designed rotating plate adds interest and interaction to the scene.
